Happy Earth Day! Let’s talk about clean energy

In honor of Earth Day being in April, we thought it would be the best time to talk about how and why propane is one of the cleanest choices for alternative fuel. Propane is a certified green fuel, which makes it the best way for individuals to decrease their carbon footprint. But don’t just take our word for it! The National Energy Policy Act of 1992 and the Clean Air Act of 1990 declared propane as an approved alternative clean-burning fuel.

How is using propane better for the environment?

For starters, propane is non-toxic, nonpoisonous, and insoluble in water, so if there is a propane spill it will be released as a liquid or vapor. This is what makes it possible for propane tanks to be installed underground without concern of it being an environmental hazard. Propane is also the cleanest energy source because of its low carbon content. In comparison to charcoal grills, propane releases 105 times less carbon monoxide! Not convinced? Using propane also minimizes hydrocarbon and greenhouse gas emissions. When you chose propane, you are choosing to help our planet!

Clean burning for the environment and your home!

When using propane, it minimizes soot and scaling on your appliances. Fossil fuels like gasoline and diesel create sulfur dioxide and particles that causes buildup in your appliances. Choosing propane ultimately protects homeowners from costly maintenance on their appliances. This clean burning fuel alternative helps your appliances run better for longer!

Not sure how you can use propane?

Here is a helpful list of ways that you can incorporate propane in your life:

  • Home heating
  • Cooking appliances
  • Dryers
  • Water Heaters
  • Powering Backup Generators
  • Fireplaces and Outdoor Fire Pits
  • Pool and Hot Tub Heating
  • Outdoor Grills
  • Tow Motor
  • Forklifts
  • Construction and Landscaping Equipment
  • Patio Heaters

And this is just to name a few! Practically anything that runs on natural gas or electricity can also run on propane.

Did you know?

Propane has no natural odor, color or taste so a harmless chemical called mercaptan is added to give it that distinctive “rotten egg” smell as a way to help detect leaks!

Office Closed Labor Day Monday 9/5

It’s finally cooling off a little around the Delaware Valley so that we can all enjoy our time outside without worrying too much about the heat. This summer has been a scorcher and, here at Styer Propane, we have lost count of the number of red hot summers that were followed up by frigid, foul winters. Whatever winter brings us in 2016-17, rest assured that the hard working drivers and office staff here at Styer will have you covered for all of your propane needs!

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind folks that our Pre-Buy offer ends September 30th (or while supplies last). Be sure to save on propane by talking to a Styer representative about this year’s savings.

Finally, we would like to mention that our office will be closed on Monday, September 5th in observance of the Labor Day holiday. For those of you squeezing that last bit of fun out of summer, we wish you a safe and happy Labor Day!

Recognizing the Fallen and those who Serve

This weekend, what has come to be known as Memorial Day Weekend and the Unofficial Start of Summer will no doubt bring joy and good times to many across the region with backyard BBQ parties and quick trips to the Jersey Shore, Pocono Mountains as well as the Delaware and Maryland beaches. We do wish all of those folks who will enjoy that extra day off with family and friends a safe and relaxing weekend.

More importantly though, our thoughts this Monday will be with the families of fallen military service members. Our way of life in this country; our rights to live, do business and worship how we please is guaranteed by the sacrifices made by young men and women over the last two and a half centuries and those sacrifices continue across the world to this day. To those United States servicemen and women and their families and to those who continue to serve and risk each and every day, we say thank you for your service and your sacrifice.

Happy Easter from Styer Propane

What a wonderful time of the year! It would appear as though winter has taken its final gasp for the 2015-16 season and spring is quickly making itself more visible with every passing day. The first few flowers have begun to pop up and early blooming trees are also showing their colors. At Styer Propane, we love the spring as it gives our team an opportunity to take a deep breath from the hectic mad dash of the winter season. With the kids on break and Easter upon us, we would like to remind everyone that we will be closed on March 25 in observance of Good Friday. We would also like to wish all of our customers a Happy Easter and a Happy Spring!

A Note About Icy Driveways

We are thrilled that this winter has been much kinder than the winter of 2013-2014. However, we have had enough winter weather to make it difficult at times for our trucks to get up icy and uncleared driveways. Our most difficult challenges are those driveways that have gone uncleared and where snow has been packed down over a few days. We request that any customers requesting service for the remainder of winter please take care to see driveways and walkways be cleared for the safety of our drivers. We thank you all in advance for our cooperation.

Thank You for a Great Year

The year that was 2014 was a wild one for sure. Certainly, making it through the winter tested the strength of our equipment, the nerve of our drivers and the patience of pretty much everyone in the Delaware Valley. This past year was a great year for all of us here at Styer Propane and it is all due to our fabulous customers and amazing staff. We would like to wish everyone out there a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year as we look forward to serving all of your propane needs in 2015!

Here Comes Winter

Given how tough last winter was, it is alarming to think that the cold temperatures are already beginning to creep into the Delaware Valley. It feels like we just got finished shoveling from the last storm in late March!

Some meteorologists are already predicting that this upcoming winter may bring Southeastern Pennsylvania another difficult season of bitter cold and high snow totals. As long as roads are not significantly choked off with ice and downed trees as they were at times last winter, Styer Propane should have no problems servicing our customers anywhere in Berks, Delaware, Montgomery and Chester Counties.

This winter, please do remember that when it snows to be sure your driveway is shoveled and that there is a clear path to a well marked propane tank so that our drivers can access your propane fill with reasonable ease. We appreciate your business and thank you in advance for your cooperation!

System Maintenance is a Must

Regardless of what type of comfort system you have in your home, make sure you have your system checked at least once per year. Many HVAC outfits will come twice per year (once for the air conditioning season and once for the heating season).

Either way, maintenance equals preparedness. Your HVAC tech will check over your entire system and may also check your tank connections. If you have any questions about HVAC maintenance operators in our area, call us anytime for a referral.

Have a Happy and Safe Memorial Day Weekend

After a bear of a winter, we have all earned a nice long weekend that is upon us this Memorial Day Weekend. No doubt folks will be firing up the grill or heading out of town to enjoy some sun or fresh air with family and friends over the Memorial Day weekend.

Let us also please take a moment to keep in our thoughts those members of our armed forces who helped to secure our freedom by giving their lives in battle. The time we are afforded to spend with friends and family this holiday is truly a testament to their fighting for our freedom.

Our offices will be will be closed on Monday but we will have service available for emergencies only. We will pick back up on Tuesday the 27th at our regularly office hours.

What a Winter!

Despite the call for a small amount of snow this evening, we would be remiss in not recognizing that spring is finally now upon us. We would also be remiss in not commenting on the winter that was. The winter of 2013-2014 tested all of us in some way or another all throughout the Delaware Valley. It tested our patience, our vehicles and our ability to live without electricity for days on end.

At Styer Propane, the unrelenting winter weather tested our equipment as well as our staff. We would like to thank all of our drivers, office staff as well as our sales and support workers for stepping up to the challenge this winter by staying extra hours and working weekends to ensure our clients were served as quickly as road conditions would allow. We would also like to thank our  clients for their patience and understanding during any number of snow and ice storms. Many times this winter, downed trees and power lines choked off our delivery routes making it impossible for us to avoid delays in getting propane to folks in short order.

As we move into spring and summer, we look forward to sharing with you some very cool news  We invite you to stay tuned and we thank you all for your continued support of our business.

Sincerely,

The Styer Propane Team
